Areas of Interest:
Paleomagnetism, paleoclimate, paleoenvironment, paleogeographic reconstruction, true polar wander of the Earth and the other terrestrial planetary bodies.
Research Overview:
Dr. Zhiyu Yi works on paleomagnetism. His research focuses mainly on Asian tectonics, plate tectonics coupled to environmental changes, paleoclimate and true polar wander. His major contributions include: 1) Refining the timing of closure of major ancient oceans IN Asia (the Paleo-Asian Ocean, the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean and Neo-Tethys Ocean); 2) elucidating the concept and mechanism of the Great Jurassic aridification in East Asia and 3) providing further evidence for the rapid Jurassic true polar wander. His current research interests include: reconstruction of the East Asian blocks in Pangea during the Triassic, the Mesozoic true polar wander, as well as the Pangean mega-monsoon.
