Areas of Interest:

[1] Ionosphere, thermosphere, and plasmasphere

[2] Ionospheric responses to geomagnetic storms

[3] GNSS ionospheric modeling and applications

Research Overview:

The Earth’s ionosphere is an important region that connects THE outer space and the middle atmosphere. The research of Dr. Zhong focuses on the climatological variation of the earth's ionosphere, thermosphere, and plasmasphere, the responses of the ionosphere to geomagnetic storms, and the GNSS Ionospheric Modeling and Applications. In recent YEARS, Dr. Zhong's group haS developed new methods for LEO-based TEC data processing, which HAS revealed SOME new aspects of the variations of the topside ionosphere. TheSE results have IMPROVED the accuracy and reliability FOR DETERMINING THE LEO-based topside TEC in space weather applications, and have advanced our knowledge of the variations of the topside ionosphere and their responseS to geomagnetic storms.
