Research Overview:

Wave-particle interaction is an important physical process controlling the inner magnetospheric environment. Information about the generation mechanism and spatiotemporal distribution of the related plasma waves is required to understand and forecast the inner magnetospheric particle dynamics. Dr. Liu has focused on the the prompt responses of magnetospheric plasma waves to the solar wind disturbances. Using observations from RBSP, THEMIS, ERG, etc, Dr. Liu has investigated chorus, plasmaspheric hiss, exohiss, magnetosonic emission, ECH wave, EMIC wave, and ultra low frequency pulsation. These studies demonstrate the importance of solar wind disturbance in the spatiotemporal distribution of magnetospheric plasma waves, and provide a new opportunity to examine the wave generation mechanisms.
