Abstract:
Coronal mass ejection (CME) interaction is a widespread phenomenon in the solar-terrestrial space. It has been shown that the interaction of CME may significantly affect their space weather. Including (1) the interaction causes the change of the propagation speed and direction and affects the effectiveness of the ground; (2) the interaction causes the southward magnetic field to increase and then changes the geomagnetic effect; (3) the topological structure change caused by the interaction leads to high-energy particle events enhanced. This report will mainly introduce the latest progress in the research of the coronal mass ejection interaction and the complex interplanetary structure caused by the relevant research groups of the University of Science and Technology of China and domestic and foreign scholars.

About the Speaker:
Chenglong Shen, the professor of School of Earth and Space Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China. He entered the University of Science and Technology of China in 1999 to start his undergraduate study. After graduating from his Ph.D. in 2008, he has stayed at the school until now. He was promoted to a professor in 2016 and visited Stanford University in the United States from September 2011 to July 2012. He has been engaged in the research of solar eruptive activities such as coronal mass ejection and its impact on the planetary space environment for a long time, and has made achievements in the impact of solar eruptive activities on the planetary space environment, the interplanetary propagation process of solar eruptive activities, and the interaction process of solar eruptive activities. A series of original achievements, more than 80 SCI papers have been published in top professional journals such as Nature physics, APJ(L), JGR, etc. And he successively won the outstanding member of the Youth Innovation Promotion Association of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the first prize of natural science of the Ministry of Education in 2018 (the second completer), etc., and received funding from the Outstanding Youth Fund of the Natural Science Foundation of China in 2018.
